ZDR系列液体水电阻起动柜是为了进一步改善大、中型绕线式异步电动机的起动性能而研制成功的新一代起动控制装置，通过在被控电动机的转子回路中串入液体水电阻，随电动机起动时自动投入并在预定的时间内自动、无级、连续切除，克服了频敏变阻器、油浸变阻器、铸铁变阻器等老式起动控制设备冲击电流大（一般约为额定电流的3～5倍），起动不理想等不足，使电机在理想的起动电流条件下平稳起动，均匀升速，对保护电机、用电设备、电网及节能等方面有显著效果。该设备在起动、停止、故障保护、联络、报警、显示等方面、精心设计，与其它老式起动器相比较，具有自动化程度高、起动电流小（一般小于额定电流的1.3倍）、电气及机械冲击小、特别适宜于重载起动等特点，电网电压低亦能顺利起动，降低了变压器的容量，是目前球磨机、提升机、破碎机、压缩机、风机、水泵等重负载的最理想的起动控制设备。
