传感器提供模拟输出可用于控制张力或调整收缩膜的收紧速度。透过两点教导设定，将20 mA为包装卷的高位，并将4 mA低位点手动设定在卷料中心的高度。如此一来就不用真的将卷料完全展开。 另外，数字输出也能在卷料即将用尽前通知操作人员进行更换。

设定方式是使用按键设定开关点。调整方式与手动设定模拟输出类似，操作人员可直接将临界点设定在接近卷筒中心的位置，透过这种设定方式就无需将卷料完全展开。

Laser Sensors Measure Paper Rolls in a Range of Colors & Automatically Scale Output

Background
Prior to being packaged, paper table coverings are unwound from large rolls and cut to size. Insufficient or excessive tension on the paper can damage the table coverings, making them unsellable. To maintain the proper level of tension, the unwind speed needs to increase proportionately to the shrinking size of the roll.

Challenges
A manufacturer of table top products offers paper table coverings in many styles and in a broad pallet of colors. Because of their immunity to variations in color, ultrasonic sensors were used to take continuous measurements of each roll’s diameter and regulate unwind speeds. Gusts of air passing through the production area caused measurement errors which led to disproportionate unwind speeds.

Product losses and downtime prompted the company to seek an alternate solution. In testing, optical sensors were unaffected by the gusts, but darker colored table coverings were difficult for the sensors to measure, resulting in incorrect outputs.

Description
After a convincing demonstration, the company chose Banner’s L-GAGE? LE550 laser gauging sensors to replace the ultrasonic sensors on their winders.

Like the optical sensors, the LE550 is unaffected by drafts in the facility. Unlike the
optical sensors, the LE550 is color insensitive. Linear array technology enables the LE550 to measure each roll, regardless of paper color, even colors that had most challenged the optical sensors. The superior linearity, repeatability and resolution of the LE550 ensure reliable and consistent roll measurement and output.

Using the default settings, the company deployed the L-GAGE LE550 sensors throughout the facility without having to teach or scale the outputs. Out of the box, the LE550 automatically scales across its entire operational range, from 100 mm to 1000 mm. The LCD display provides real-time measurement and output information and makes it easy for the company to assign set points and output levels.

Carton Profiling

Carton profiling is an important aspect of the packaging industry. It helps ensure cartons and packages make it to the correct area of the factory for shipment. Cartons need to be measured for height, length and width, and the size needs to be communicated to a PLC for proper placement.

Description
Cartons moving on a conveyor pass between two LE550 laser sensors, measuring the width in order to sort cartons properly. The LE550 sensors are an economic solution for carton profiling.

The analog output sends a signal to the PLC to deliver the carton to the correct storage location.

Banner’s LE550 provides repeatability and accuracy while measuring the height, length and width of cartons. The laser sensors have an intuitive user interface, making it easy to adjust settings.

Measuring Movement Range

A company supplying the auto industry makes power seating systems for a popular line of sport utility vehicles. The vehicle manufacturer requires that these systems be fully functioning and ready for installation before they are shipped.

During assembly, inspections are conducted to measure seat height adjustment, forward and rearward movement, and upright and recline motion. Two sensors are used for each inspection. The sensors are deployed off the conveyor line to ensure easy access to and the free movement of the seats. At its maximum range during inspection, a seat may be as far as a meter away from the sensors.

Description
After comparing performance and cost, the company chose L-GAGE? LE550 laser sensors. LE550 sensors can detect changes as slight as 1 mm at a meter away, but at nearly half the price of the sensors they replaced. Utilizing linear array technology and laser triangulation, the LE550s provide exceptional linearity, repeatability and resolution across their entire 100 mm - 1000 mm operating range. LE550 sensors feature a small spot size and visible beam for easy alignment.

The two-line, eight-character LCD display simplifies setup, provides real-time measurement and output information and makes altering the application easy.

During each inspection, seats are adjusted from their minimum to their maximum range. The LE550s measure the change in distance. If a measurement falls outside of the acceptable range, the output is triggered, the operator is alerted and the line is briefly stopped to allow the operator to inspect the seat and correct the problem.
